about
Kathy was a studio art major at Skidmore College where she concentrated in oil painting, photography, and graphic design. Following graduation, Kathy worked for ten years as a set designer/stylist/producer with a commercial photographer whose specialty was large productions with character models. Her expertise ranges from building sets, making large scale models, wallpapering and painting backdrops to casting and styling models and searching for the impossible prop. She has been part of the entire creative team by collaborating with photographers, art directors, and ad and casting agencies.
Kathy started her own business, Vintage White Elephant, specializing in restoring and embellishing furniture and home accessories. She designs and manufactures one-of-a-kind items such as pillows and dog beds using vintage fabrics and trims. She has turned a baby grand piano into a purple dining room table, converted old movie theatre seats into red leather kitchen seating, and decoupaged a dining room table with images of 1950's pinup girls. Her company also does interior design work and consultations. She has had several exhibits with her "Junk Chimes" which are made from odd artifacts collected from as far away as Nepal, Bangkok, to Anguilla and Nantasket Beach. She sold the collection to ABC Carpet and Home in NYC.
Her latest endeavor is creating a line of unique dog beds. Each bed is made from machine washable fabrics that have been collected from around the world and handcrafted in the USA. Her dog beds can be viewed and are sold on her website www.vintagewhiteelephant.com.
